The programme is open to all animal rescue centres in Ireland and Northern Ireland, and it is free to join.

How to Apply

Please contact us if you work with an animal welfare organization and are interested in becoming a PetAware Project Partner,  email to hello@donedeal.ie for an application form.

Your application is reviewed and approved by the DoneDeal staff. You can start to advertise for free on DoneDeal as soon as your application has been approved.

• Never buy a pet on impulse
• Please consider dogs in our Pet Adoption Centre 
• Research before you purchase. Each type of dog has different care requirements.
• Make sure you can provide food, companionship, and health-care for your new family member.
• Do you have some living space prepared for your new pet?
• See the mother together with the puppy. Check that the breeder’s facilities are clean and animals are alert and healthy.
• Always ask for a copy of its medical records, including vaccination certificate, details of worming and flea treatment.
• For pedigree puppies, ensure that Kennel Club registration papers and the parents’ hereditary disease screening certificates, where appropriate, are in order.
• Agree in writing that purchase is subject to satisfactory check-up by your vet within 48 hours.
• Please contact the organisation who are issuing pure bred papers prior to purchase.

DoneDeal is run by husband and wife team Geraldine and Fred Karlsson from Wexford town. Wexford is Geraldine’s home town while Fred is originally from Sweden.

Nowadays we are a team of eight people who work with DoneDeal, and we are still based in Wexford town.

Fred was a finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2010. You can see the video from the DoneDeal office on the eoy.tv website.

The idea behind DoneDeal

The idea for DoneDeal came up when Geraldine and Fred moved back to Ireland in 2004 after living in Sweden for a couple of years.

We were looking to buy some second hand furniture for our new house. Unfortunately we could not find any good Irish websites with high quality classified ads. We found the existing sites and papers for classifieds to be a lot of hassle, mainly because there were no photos, and what was being sold was described in only a few words.

So the idea for DoneDeal was born. We wanted to create a site where the classified ads had photos and long descriptions of the goods. The site must also be easy to use, so that everyone can use it.

Help us get better

Hopefully you find DoneDeal helpful and easy to use. Our main goal with the site is to take the hassle out of buying and selling second hand goods.

Please let us know if you have any ideas on how we can improve the site or our service. Many of our customers have given us positive feedback since the launch in June 2005. We have also received much appreciated ideas for improvements. These user comments have been invaluable in getting DoneDeal to where it is today.

Read through our section on what you need to know before placing an ad on DoneDeal.

Go to DoneDeal and click on Place ad in the green box.

Choose the type of ad you want to place – For Sale or Wanted.

Include a brief description of your ad or the goods you are selling.

Select the section you would like to place your ad in – from the list to the left or the suggested sections.

Choose your county from the drop down menu. Insert your asking price. Include a description of the goods you are selling/looking for.

Upload photos or video.

Insert your contact details including a valid phone number and email address.

Follow the step-by-step instructions on the Payment page.

It costs €3 in the Republic of Ireland and £2.50 in the North of Ireland to place an ad on DoneDeal for two months. We’ve made it as convenient as possible for you to place an ad by giving you a choice of payment options.

You can pay through your phone, or pay online with your debit card (e.g. Laser) or credit card through a secure online payments system called Realex or using your PayPal account or credit card using PayPal, a popular global payments system.

We only ask you to pay for your ad once we know you’re happy with all the details you’ve entered and have gone through the process of placing an ad.

To pay for your ad:

• Click on Place ad which you’ll find at the top of every page on the main DoneDeal site.
• Follow the step-by-step instructions and enter all the details to be included in your ad.
• On the last page you will be given a choice of payment options.
• You can choose to pay by phone* or by PayPal or Realex if you prefer to pay with a credit card or your Laser card.

*Your phone company might add extra network charges. For the exact cost please check with your phone company how much they will charge you, or you can check the premium rate fees page in our help section.

Brief description

The brief description appears in the search results as the headline of each ad. It’s probably the first thing people will look at so it’s really important that you describe your advertised goods accurately using just a few words. Do not use all UPPER CASE in your text, most people find that very annoying to read and it won’t help you sell your goods any faster.

Description

The description is where you’re given the opportunity to go into as much detail as possible about the goods you are trying to sell (up to 1,000 characters of text). You will significantly increase your chances of a successful sale if you describe the goods well. Again, do not use all UPPER CASE in your text, people really do find it very annoying to read.

Add photos or video

Adding photos or a video makes your ad even more effective. These give potential buyers a very good idea of what you are selling. An up-to-date photo shows the current state of the goods you are selling and gives your potential buyers realistic expectations. A video can be used to show that an item is in perfect working order. Allowing potential buyers to be able to see goods with their own eyes can reduce the number of time wasters and unnecessary time consuming enquiries.

Price

Including the price you are seeking for the goods you’ve advertised means you won’t have to deal with phone calls and emails asking how much it costs. It is also a good idea to state in the description whether the price is negotiable.

Contact

All ads must contain a valid phone number, i.e. a phone number you can be contacted on. You can also include your email address so people can enquire by email. Your email address will not appear on the ad but your phone number will.

One item per ad

Selling more than one item? It’s best to put each item into a separate ad. This makes it easier for potential buyers to find the items you are selling. Also, you can remove the ads as the goods are sold rather than dealing with enquiries for an item that already has a buyer.

Links

You can include links in your description that describe the goods being advertised. However, these should not be to another classifieds or auction website or any website that does not give more information about the goods.

Remove ads

It’s your responsibility to delete ads when the goods have been sold. In this way you avoid unnecessary calls and emails. Otherwise ads are automatically removed after two months.

Email

An email address is required to publish an ad, even if you choose to be contacted by phone only in your ad. All communication from DoneDeal in relation to the ad is sent to the email address you provide. We do not give out your email address to anyone else, and we only use your email to communicate with you about your ad. Please add support@donedeal.ie to your email address book to help ensure you receive any emails we need to send to you.
