If you have problems getting through to a phone number in an ad it is normally due to one of the following reasons:
- Cross-border number: If the phone number is for the other side of the border (Ireland vs. Northern Ireland) you should add the country prefix to the phone number. See our guide for making phone calls with country codes.
- Wrong number: The person who placed the ad may have put the wrong phone number in the ad by mistake. Please try to contact the seller by email, if an email address has been included. If you can’t contact them by email, please report the ad to us. We will contact the seller and ask them to update the phone number in the ad with the correct number.
- Scam: It may also be a scammer who hasn’t used a real phone number. If the phone number in the ad doesn’t work, please be extra careful and read our Safety Guide before you buy or sell anything. If you suspect the ad is a scam, please report the ad to us and we will remove it.
- If the phone number continually rings out or goes to voicemail, remember it could simply be that the seller can’t answer the phone for some reason. This is unusual, but something may have happened since they put up the ad. Try to make contact through email, if possible. Otherwise, the only thing you can do is to try the phone number again another time.
